The Brief
A 28-room boutique hotel undergoing a 6-month refurbishment needed to replace its ageing halogen and CFL lighting across the lobby, reception, corridors and cafe. Ceiling was a mix of drop gypsum (in the lobby) and exposed RCC (in the older corridor sections). Owner wanted warm, hospitality-appropriate lighting that didn't need any maintenance in the first 3 years.
Products Supplied
| Qty | Product |
|---|---|
| 36 × | 12W Anti-Glare COB Downlight SLCB02, 3000K, lobby and reception drop-ceiling |
| 48 × | 12W Surface Cylinder SLCB05, 3000K white finish, corridor RCC ceilings (no cut-out required) |
| 14 × | 18W Movable Surface COB SLCB12, black finish, feature-wall accent in cafe |
Outcome
The refurbishment completed on schedule. 18 months in, zero fixture replacements. Corridor surface cylinders handled the humid climate with no thermal issues (aluminium heat-sink construction pays off in coastal-adjacent Maharashtra). Guest reviews on Booking.com and TripAdvisor picked up +0.3 stars on average after the refurb, with lighting mentioned specifically in 4% of post-stay reviews.
“For an older building with a mix of ceiling types, having one lighting supplier who could deliver both recessed and surface fixtures was the deciding factor. And 18 months in, we haven't opened the toolkit for a single downlight replacement.” — Hotel Owner, Sangli
Key Learnings
- Surface cylinders are the right answer for RCC/concrete ceilings — retrofit installs in 6-8 hours per corridor without any ceiling work.
- Coastal-adjacent Maharashtra humidity is punishing for cheap driver electronics — specify aluminium heat-sink bodies and BIS-approved drivers.
- In hospitality, warmer 3000K throughout beats mixed CCT — guests feel the difference even if they can't articulate why.
